Lawrence Okolie versus Dilan Prasovic breakdown

This isn’t the worst first defence of his title Okolie could have had but it’s still one he should win comfortably. Okolie simply massive for a Cruiserweight and knows how to use his height and reach well.

Dilan Prasovic

I think Okolie will keep Prasovic at range for a few rounds before landing a big shot and finishing the fight in the 5th or 6th round. Okolie could become unified without huge problems in my opinion due to how tall he is for the weight.

Anthony Joshua versus Oleksandr Usyk breakdown

This is an amazing fight and one i’m really looking forward too. Joshua has shown to be a very good heavyweight while Usyk was the undisputed Cruiserweight world champion a few years ago.

Oleksandr Usyk

Without going into to much detail I think Joshua wins a decision after twelve rounds due to landing the more explosive and eye catching punches. His jab will be a key factor in this fight. I personally believe Usyk has slowed down in recent years and I don’t think he’ll be quick enough consistently to catch Joshua and hurt him like he needs too.

Callum Smith versus Lenin Castillo breakdown

This is a good test for Smith who is moving up to Light Heavyweight after losing to Canelo Alvarez at Super Middleweight. Lenin Castillo is a former title challenger who possesses power and has shown toughness in the past. Castillo isn’t the most active in terms of punch volume and may struggle with a potentially rejuvenated Callum Smith.

Lenin Castillo

I think Callum Smith will win this fight by decision after ten rounds due to being technically better and likely out working Castillo.

Maxim Prodan versus Florian Marku breakdown

This is an excellent fight between two power punchers who have been explosive in the ring. Prodan is powerful and strong but lacks the ability to box from the outside that Marku has. For the most part Marku will come forward and tuck up behind a high guard before unleashing combinations but when needed hes shown he can box on the back foot.

Maxim Prodan

I think this should be a highly competitive fight as both have shown flaws when stepping up in competition. I think over ten rounds Marku will do enough to win due to having the ability to adapt from a brawling style to boxing from the outside. Prodan struggled mightily with that style in his last fight and was fortunate to be on the good side of a bad stoppage as he was behind on all cards.

Campbell Hatton versus Sonni Martinez breakdown

This is a slight step up for Hatton who has only just started his professional career after only having a few amateur fights. Sonni Martinez is a journeyman but hes a journeyman that comes to win and has given a few prospects problems. The fight is also over six rounds, a distance Hatton has never gone and in his other fights hes shown a somewhat questionable gas tank at times. He certainly seems to slow down and lose his shape in the 3rd and 4th round of his fights. Martinez is strong and is clearly more skilled than Hatton’s other opponents. I personally think he’ll be looking for big counters throughout the fight which may lead to him not being active enough and getting outworked.

Sonni Martinez

I think Campbell Hatton will outwork Martinez and win a 4-2 decision though if Martinez landed a few big counters and ended up winning I certainly wouldn’t be surprised.

Kenshiro Teraji versus Masamichi Yabuki breakdown

This should be a fun fight as Yabuki is powerful and tries to counter opponents at mid range while Teraji is a skilled boxer who carries some reasonable power himself. I think this could be a fairly dangerous fight for Teraji.

Masamichi Yabuki

Teraji should be able to use his jab and body work to beat Yabuki by knockout in the second half of the fight. If Yabuki’s power translates to world level then he has a chance at catching Teraji and stopping him but otherwise he is likely to be out boxed. This is Teraji’s 9th defence of his WBC Light flyweight title.

Arslanbek Makhmudov versus Erkan Teper breakdown

This is a slight step up for Makhmudov who need’s to start progressing towards world level soon as he’s 32. He clearly has good power even for a heavyweight and can box decently. Erkan Teper is 39 and coming towards the end of his career. He’s a decent fringe level European fighter but hasn’t fought in over a year.

Erkan Teper

I think this fight will make Makhmudov look good and he’ll win by knockout within three rounds due to his power and comparative youth compared to Teper.

Kash Ali versus Roman Gorst breakdown

This is a decent fight for Kash Ali who is slowly working his way towards a British title shot. Gorst only has one loss but is a smaller heavyweight and susceptible to uppercuts.

Roman Gorst

Kash Ali should be able to use his size and power to stop Gorst within five or six rounds. Ali’s jab and uppercuts , which seem to be his two best tools, should be more than enough to beat Gorst who while tough is a bit limited.

Boxing starts from the ground up

Boxing is often remembered by fans for the big nights involving thousands of people and some of the greatest fighters to step into the ring. This is only logical as those are the nights and sights that most people see and the big nights don’t come around to often so they are special memories for people. For the casual boxing fan the big events or even just televised events are the only boxing they watch, and again this is understandable.

What a lot of people forget is that every boxer has to start somewhere, a debut has to be made. Often in some sports centre close to where the fighter grew up with a few friends and family attending to make it worth it for the promoter to have them on the card. That’s how the majority of boxers start their careers and without the small hall shows boxing wouldn’t exist. A good proportion of the talent shown on television started from humble beginnings and perhaps more importantly the tough tests for up and coming stars almost always come originally from the small hall scene.

Another important reason for small hall shows and local boxing is that it creates an interest and a boxing culture where ever they are. It also allows fans to watch live boxing without having to travel sometimes hundreds of miles and spend huge amounts of money. A thriving local boxing scene with regular cards will allow for talent in the area to grow and this is seen throughout the world. Mexico still has a thriving club scene and they produce huge amounts of talented fighters. Phildelphia has a lot of local shows and regularly produces good fighters.

If there’s a local boxing show you can go to I’d highly recommend going. The atmosphere’s are normally great because of the smaller venues and that most of the fans have come to see specific fighters so really get into the fights. It’s a different experience to going to a big fight but one equally worth going to. You’ll also help out the local scene and likely get to know who the local boxers are as well as other people that go to the cards if you carrying on going yourself.

Miguel Angel Madueno Angulo versus Sonny Fredrickson breakdown

This is a good fight between unbeaten power puncher Angulo and veteran contender Fredrickson. Angulo is 24-0 with 22 knockouts but hasn’t faced the same level of competition that Fredrickson has. Angulo is the bigger puncher of the two and is a lot more aggressive. He doesn’t stop punching until his opponents can’t continue, he has little regard for his own defence. Fredrickson is a competent boxer-puncher who is on a three fight slide right now.

Sonny Fredrickson

I think this fight may go similarly to the Alex Saucedo fight where Fredrickson survives but struggles to compete versus the superior power of his opponent. If he can survive the early rounds then he could have success late on if Angulo gasses out, however I expect it to be to little to late. Angulo will likely win a decision after ten rounds due to being the bigger puncher and his fairly impressive body work.
