Robbie Davies Jnr versus Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela breakdown

I think this could be a very competitive fight and one where the underdog Valenzuela could win. I’m not just saying that because Josh Warrington lost to an unheard of Mexican last week I just generally believe this fight is competitive and when fighters aren’t world level they have an even higher chance of being upset.

Robbie Davies Jnr is a decent technical boxer though actually does his best work when going in a toe to toe war or when he stays close to his opponents which is strange as hes actually quite a tall lightweight. From the outside he gets hit by pot shots a lot and his defence is a little shaky in my opinion. He has been stopped before and by someone that isn’t much of a puncher at all. He has a good amount of experience versus good opponents but has rarely outclassed them. I thought he lost versus Joe Hughes and if he hadn’t got that decision then this fight would likely be his biggest win if he gets it.

Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela is also decent technically and is an awkward fighter to figure out as he’ll often have his hands slightly low and then punch from unexpected angles. He has some decent power though not one punch knockout power from what i’ve watched. I don’t think his defence is great but he has solid head movement and also uses feints to draw opponents in before countering.

Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela

I think in a very competitive fight Valenzuela will deserve to get a decision due to frustrating and out boxing Robbies Davies Jnr but will likely get robbed as hes the away fighter.

Johnny Fisher versus Matt Gordon breakdown

There isn’t a whole lot to breakdown in this fight as Fisher is seen as a decent prospect making his debut versus Gordon who tries his best but simply isn’t up to the level of the prospects hes fighting.

Matt Gordon has lost four times by knockout out of his five losses and with how hard Fisher punched in the amateurs I think he should win this by stoppage fairly comfortably in the first or second round. I look forward to watching his career and will try to cover every fight which is why i’m doing this one.

David Avanesyan versus Josh Kelly breakdown

This is one of the best fights of the weekend and one i’m really looking forward too. David Avanesyan has revived his career by going on a crusade in Spain against every Welterweight they have while Josh Kelly has struggled versus Ray Robinson and a few other opponents who weren’t great.

David Avanesyan is a come forward fighter who throws a lot of punches and keeps a solid pace. He’s a decent puncher but not a one punch KO artist. I think hes good fundamentally but is unlikely to out box the best fighters at Welterweight.

David Avanesyan

Josh Kelly had a huge amount of hype coming out of the amateurs and early in his career showed flashes of brilliance but as he stepped up the competition some of his flaws were exposed which is why he’s seen as an underdog in this fight. He’s technically good though has a bit of an unorthodox style. His defence and stamina has been questionable in the past but I think these issues would have been fixed for this fight as otherwise he wouldn’t be taking it after pulling out of the fight so many times.

Using recent form you’d lean towards Avanesyan but I get the feeling Josh Kelly is starting to put it all together and is much better now than his past performances suggest. I don’t necessarily think Avanesyan has improved and while he’s had some good results recently its hard to forget when he was stopped by Egis Kavaliauskas. I think Josh Kelly will use his skills and size advantage to box himself to a decision victory and show he can make a run in the star studded welterweight division.

Zhan Kossobutskiy versus Onoriode Ehwarieme breakdown

This is a good fight though one where I think Zhan Kossobutskiy is a major favorite. Hes currently 14-0 with 13 knockouts and has looked great since leaving the amateurs. Ehwarieme has power but hasn’t knocked anyone out of note and in his only step up fight was KO’d in the first round in a fight he should have won.

I think Zhan Kossobutskiy will win by knockout due to being fundamentally better and also fighting the better competition throughout his career while Ehwarieme hasn’t faced anyone remotely good.

Robert Paradero versus Victorio Saludar breakdown

This should be a competitive fight between two minimum weights who are at the title level but in this fight aren’t fighting for a real world title. I think both have relatively equal skill sets though Saludar has much more experience and is a former world champion.

I think after a competitive fight Paradero will win a decision due to Saludar being 30 which is old for a minimum weight and he also has a decent amount of wear and tear while Paradero is fresh.

Fedor Chudinov versus Isaac Chilemba breakdown

This is a solid fight and if Chudinov wins then it’s a good scalp on his resume and likely the last fight he takes before he gets another big fight in the Super Middleweight division. Isaac Chilemba has been competing at the top of the Light Heavyweight division for around seven years though has struggled to pick up many big wins. At this point in his career hes being used as a good test and name on people’s resume. His is moving down to Super Middleweight and is big for the weight at 6ft 2.

Fedor Chudinov is a come forward fighter with a decent jab when he chooses to use it. When he gets close in he throws combinations and really lets his hands go however he does spend periods of his fights just standing in range but not throwing. He’ll keep pressuring for twelve rounds and has an iron chin so will walk through almost anything. He has decent power but isn’t a huge one punch KO artist.

Isaac Chilemba is a very awkward fighter who can make most of his opponents look bad though hasn’t won when its mattered. He’s not a big puncher and isn’t especially active when hes in the ring. His defence is very good and he clearly has a solid chin. I think hes good fundamentally but doesn’t take enough risks to beat his opponents who are coming forward which influences the judges.

Isaac Chilemba

I think Fedor Chudinov will win a decision after ten rounds due to walking through Chilemba’s punches and landing the more eye catching punches. I also highly doubt that in a close fight Chilemba’s back foot awkward style will be rewarded.

Gavin Gwynne upsets Sean McComb

Gavin Gwynne caused a big upset due to his toughness and grit. I didn’t necessarily think he was the more skilled fighter but he had a lot more stamina and also had more will to win which in the end made him the better fighter and got him the victory.

It’s nice too see him get a big win and hopefully he gets some major fights off the back of this.

Florian Marku versus Rylan Charlton breakdown

This is an excellent fight and one I see as a relative 50/50. Florian Marku had looked impressive until his last fight where I thought a lack of urgency rather than a lack of skill hurt him. Though the fight was declared a draw I thought Marku did enough to win and should currently be 8-0. Rylan Charlton came out of seemingly no where and caused a big upset versus Joe Laws last time out and will be looking to do the same here.

Florian Marku is decent technically though as I said the last time I was previewing one of his fights he hasn’t fully transitioned into a more traditional boxing style which will hurt him as he goes up the levels. His defence consists of him holding a high guard and not moving while waiting for his opponents to stop punching. He’s good offensively and very clearly hits hard as even the opponents he hasn’t stopped hes hurt multiple times.

Rylan Charlton showed a lot in his last fight and seems to have improved from the footage i’d watched. He’s clearly got some power though I also think Joe Laws doesn’t have a great chin and got caught early and cold. He’s a very compact fighter with a nice jab and a bit like Marku his defence mostly consists of a high guard. He very rarely throws straight punches and instead loves to wing in hook after hook sometimes in three or four punch combinations.

Rylan Charlton

I think this is going to be an all out war for ten rounds with neither giving an inch. I honestly can’t split them as both use high guards and throw big punches in combinations. In my opinion the fight will likely be a draw though Charlton winning a decision wouldn’t surprise me as hes more compact and lets his punches go more while Marku can sometimes get complacent and almost forget to throw punches.

Pierce O’Leary versus Irvin Magno breakdown

This isn’t a bad learning fight for O’Leary but also one he should win comfortably. O’Leary is 5-0 with two knockouts while Irvin Magno is 5-3-1 with one knockout.

Pierce O’Leary does pretty much everything better than Magno and may be the first to stop him. I think O’Leary’s non stop aggression and body punching will be enough for him to win by knockout in the 5th round.

Paddy Donovan versus Siar Ozgul breakdown

This is a great step up fight for Paddy Donovan who is seen as a real prospect by a lot of people. Siar Ozgul is a solid fighter who’s around area or English level right now but can be competitive with fringe European fighters.

Paddy Donovan is good fundamentally and really tries to stop his opponents. He puts his combinations together really well and clearly has some power. His defence has held up so far though when he gets too aggressive he can get clipped.

Siar Ozgul is a determined fighter but isn’t as fundamentally good as Donovan and I think will struggle to deal with his combinations and speed. If this fight was ten rounds Ozgul would have more of a chance but with it only being six rounds I think he won’t get going in time as hes a ten round fighter in my opinion who starts slow.

Siar Ozgul

I think Paddy Donovan will win a decision after six rounds due to being better fundamentally and having more power along with a speed advantage. Donovan won’t run the risk of gassing out versus the more experienced fighter as it’s only a six rounder.
