Marc Castro versus Irving Macias Castillo breakdown

This is another decent learning fight for Marc Castro who is a top prospect in the sport after having a long amateur career. He has a come forward educated pressure style which breaks his opponents down and I think hes suited to being a professional rather than an amateur. Castillo hasn’t faced very good competition in his ten fights and in his only big step up was stopped in five rounds.

I think Marc Castro will be to technically skilled for Castillo who hasn’t had a good amateur career and has faced limited competition as a pro. I predict Castro to win by knockout within four rounds due to his pressure breaking Castillo down.

Keyshawn Davis versus Jose Antonio Meza breakdown

This is another learning fight for Keyshawn Davis who is early in his pro career but is regarded as a top prospect. Jose Antonio Meza is a journeyman but is fairly tall for the weight class. Meza has upset one prospect who didn’t have a lot of expectation behind them but has fallen short against other prospects.

Jose Antonio Meza

I think Keyshawn Davis will have too much skill for Meza due to his extensive amateur career. He’s also looked excellent in his two professional fights and clearly has a skill set that is more suited to the pro’s than amateurs.

Billy Joe Saunders threatens to pull out of Canelo fight over ring size

In what is one of the more bizarre reasons for threatening to pull out of a fight Billy Joe Saunders has decided hes not happy with the ring being its usual size and wants a larger one. He wants a 24ft ring which as far as i’m aware isn’t even allowed by the commission the fight is under. This isn’t the first complaint hes made and it seems like hes getting as many excuses ready as possible for if he loses. I originally thought this might be some weird promotional trick hes doing but hes shown no interest in actually promoting the fight and seems to just want to complain after getting the fight of his life and a massive pay day.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez

I doubt he’ll actually pull out and this drama will play itself out within a few days as Saunders isn’t going to turn down the biggest pay day of his career over a ring being slightly smaller. If he does I don’t think any promoter will want to work with him and his career will effectively be over as no one will be able to trust him to actually turn up to big fights.

Sandy Messaoud versus Oliver Mollenberg breakdown

This should be a fairly competitive fight though Messaoud should have advantages because of how many punches he throws and his experience at a higher level. Mollenberg is only 20 and can have a long career ahead of him but I think it’s to big of a step up for him at this stage.

Oliver Mollenberg

I think Sandy Messaoud will be able to win a decision after ten rounds due to how many punches he throws and his experience at a higher level. He caused a big upset in his last fight and it would be nice too see him go on a run and get a big fight soon.

Samuel Molina versus Viorel Simion breakdown

Samuel Molina is 15-0 with seven knockouts and at only 22 could have a bright future in the lightweight division. Viorel Simion is 39 and shouldn’t be fighting at lightweight as hes very small for the weight. Simion is also well past his best and is simply being used for his name value at this stage of his career.

Viorel Simion

I think Samuel Molina will win by stoppage within seven rounds due to being bigger and closer to his prime.

Andy Ruiz versus Chris Arreola breakdown

I don’t think this is a great match up but it’s a good comeback fight for Ruiz and could potentially be a very fun fight. Andy Ruiz has very fast hands but slow feet. He can punch fairly hard but hes not a big one punch KO artist in my opinion. Chris Arreola is a come forward take two to give one type of fighter. He’s had a good career but at 40 may be coming towards the end. He gave a good performance in his last fight and has come in good shape for this one so I expect him to be competitive at least early on.

Chris Arreola

I expect Andy Ruiz to win by knockout in the second half of the fight due to his hand speed, combinations and him being the younger man.

Jesus Alejandro Ramos versus Javier Molina breakdown

This is a good step up fight for Ramos who might be one of the best prospects in the sport in my opinion. He’s a 5,10 southpaw who campaigns at welterweight and has 14 knockouts out of 15 wins. Javier Molina isn’t a bad fighter and has a few good wins but has generally lost when stepping up versus the best. We don’t yet know if Ramos is at that level which is why it’s a good step for him.

Javier Molina

I personally think Ramos is the goods and should have the power and strength advantages to win this fight by knockout in round seven or eight.

Omar Figueroa Jr versus Abel Ramos breakdown

This should be a fun action fight between two big punchers coming off losses. Abel Ramos has real power but has a weakness of being out boxed by technical fighters however he should fare better in this fight. Omar Figueroa Jr looked like he was going to leave the sport but has returned after a one sided loss to Yordenis Ugas.

Omar Figueroa Jr

I think based off recent performances that Abel Ramos should win this fight as hes looked good recently while Figueroa hasn’t really proved he can succeed at welterweight yet. Ramos should put his power punches together enough to win a twelve round decision and get himself back in the mix at welterweight.

Sebastian Fundora versus Jorge Cota breakdown

This is an excellent fight between rising prospect Fundora who is very tall for the weight and come forward fighter Cota who has mixed it with the best of the division.

Jorge Cota

I really think Fundora is hard to deal with because of his height and the fact hes perfectly happy to fight on the inside. I think Cota will struggle to get into range and when he does he’ll get caught with uppercuts constantly. Fundora should win by knockout within seven or eight rounds in my opinion.

Johnny Fisher versus Phil Williams breakdown

Johnny Fisher is going through the stage of his career where he faces the journeymen that every British heavyweight prospect fights in their first five fights. Phil Williams is a tough guy but at 3-27-1 he is clearly a journeyman and unlike Sokolowski he doesn’t pull off upsets very often.

Phil Williams

Johnny Fisher should be all around too good for Williams who will try and survive the four rounds. I expect Fisher to stay active while facing this level of opposition for a little while as he develops.
