Campbell Hatton versus Levi Dunn breakdown

This is another learning fight for Hatton who will likely stay active versus this level of opponent for a while considering his age and amateur experience. Levi Dunn is 0-4 but has only been stopped once and in his own words comes to win but isn’t good enough versus the good amateurs he faces.

levi dunn lands a punch

I think Campbell Hatton should do enough with his consistent body attack and aggressive style to win a decision after four rounds. He’s certainly a work in progress and it’ll be interesting to see how far he goes.

Chris Eubank Jr versus Marcus Morrison breakdown

This is in my opinion a mismatch as Eubank Jr has proved hes around world level and a good fighter while Morrison is really an English level fighter.

In his last fight Marcus Morrison was getting out boxed convincingly by a 40 year old Emanuele Blandamura until he managed to find a fight ending punch in the 9th round. He’s had two fights since against journeymen which is what the majority of his resume consists of.

Chris Eubank Jr isn’t the best fighter in the world but hes coming off two wins at world level and has proved hes got power and an unstoppable engine at world level which should see him win this fight comfortably.

Marcus Morrison

I think that Eubank Jr will wear Morrison down and stop him late on due to being levels above Morrison who can punch a bit but hasn’t fought at this level before and is being thrown to the wolves to an extent.

Francisco Fonseca versus Robin Zamora breakdown

I don’t think this fight will be all that hard for Fonseca who has proved hes a level above domestic level. I think at Super Featherweight Fonseca is probably what I’d describe as fringe world level while Zamora is very much domestic level.

Fonseca is better technically but more importantly has more power and has already beat Zamora once. I do think it’ll be competitive at first because Zamora isn’t that bad of a fighter but has been stopped when stepping up on a fairly regular basis.

Diego Armando Torres Nunez versus Jose Andres Andrade Periban breakdown

I normally wouldn’t cover a fight like this but Nunez looks to be a promising prospect with power so I thought I’d highlight his fight on Friday. Nunez is currently 8-0 with 8 knockouts and while his opponent don’t have great records he is getting them out of the ring early compared to a lot of good fighters who they’ve fought in the past.

I expect the same to happen in this fight where Periban is tough and has gone the distance with a lot of people but will be stopped in this fight fairly early.

I expect Nunez to win by knockout within four rounds due to his power and skill.

Miguel Marriaga versus Jorge Garcia Jimenez breakdown

Miguel Marriaga is back after suffering a loss to Joet Gonzalez which really put his career down a level. Before losing that fight he was used as Top Ranks go to guy for their fighters first title defence as he’s willing to tough it out and try to win but generally isn’t good enough to win versus truly world class fighters. In his last fight he lost to another contender and so now needs to build himself back up again. Jimenez was knocked out by a soft punching fighter in his last fight so I’d be surprised if he can hold up to Marriaga’s power for ten rounds.

Jorge Garcia Jimenez

I expect Miguel Marriaga to win by stoppage within five rounds due to his power and experience. He’ll likely be a top 20 featherweight giving tests to new prospects and contenders at this point but he can still make a career out of it.

Andrew Cain versus Stephen Jackson breakdown

This is actually a sleeper of a fight as Cain is an all action fighter who’s won every fight by knockout and Jackson has also proved himself to be a good fighter even though hes only had one fight. Jackson made his debut against a 7-1-1 fighter and stopped him which I think few people expected. Cain has only faced journeymen so far and this is by far the biggest step up of his professional career so far.

Stephen Jackson

I still think Cain will win this fight by knockout because hes shown a relentlessness to his work and seems to actually being able to hurt his opponents even if he doesn’t do it in the most pretty way. Jackson is also moving up a division and has only had one fight as a pro so I feel he won’t be able to deal with Cain’s pressure that well.

Ryan Garner versus Jordan Ellison breakdown

This is Ryan Garner’s first fight for over a year and it’s a good tune up fight as Jordan Ellison is one of the better journeymen in the UK and actually comes to win.

Ryan Garner is a big puncher who throws a lot of punches and is clearly better technically than Ellison.

Jordan Ellison

I think Ryan Garner will win by knockout within four rounds due to being a bigger puncher and being better technically. Hopefully after this fight we see Ryan Garner active and in bigger fights as I think hes a talented fighter with potential.

Troy Williamson versus Kieran Smith breakdown

This is a good fight that could go either way in all honesty as both are at a similar level. Troy Williamson didn’t look good in his last fight and arguably lost though he was facing a completely different style to Smith so it may not matter much. Kieran Smith has boxed well in his last two fights but has been dropped before.

I think both fighters are technically decent though Smith is much more of an awkward boxer when he wants to be. Williamson may have more power but I do think its debatable and he relies on it too much when it clearly isn’t as good as he thinks it is. I think Williamson has a bad habit of fighting his opponents fights and if he does it in this fight hes really going to struggle. Smith knows what he wants to do in the ring though it’ll be interesting too see if he can do it at a higher level.

Kieran Smith

I think Kieran Smith will use his height and reach to win a decision after ten rounds. He’s also a southpaw which Williamson hasn’t faced as a pro yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a messy fight and Williamson wins however as he is a good fighter and this is very close to a 50/50 for me.

Michael Conlan versus Ionut Baluta breakdown

This is a good fight for both fighters where the winner will likely be looking at a world title shot within another fight or two. Conlan was a good amateur where he competed in two Olympic games. Conlan has good technical skills though not a huge amount of power in my opinion.

Ionut Baluta is coming off two upset wins in a row though will find this fight harder than the last two in my opinion. Baluta isn’t bad technically himself though isn’t as good as Conlan. He gives it his all in his fights and will have gained a lot of experience from his last two appearances inside the ring. I don’t think hes a huge puncher but he certainly hits harder than his record suggests.

Ionut Baluta

I’d love for Baluta to win because I like underdog stories however I think Conlan will likely be too much for him in this fight unless Baluta can wear him down late in the fight due to Conlan moving down in weight and being more drained. If that doesn’t happen then I think Conlan will win a decision after ten rounds due to being technically better.

Moruti Mthalane versus Sunny Edwards breakdown

This is a good fight between a very unappreciated world champion in Mthalane and rising contender Sunny Edwards. Mthalane has been at world level for more than a decade now and hasn’t shown any real signs of slowing down yet. He is 38 now and coming off a long lay off so could be affected by that but we won’t know until he gets in the ring.

Sunny Edwards is 15-0 with four knockouts and as his record suggests has no real power to speak of. He’ll box on the back foot for this fight and try and use his footwork and boxing skills to beat Mthalane after twelve rounds. He won’t have a second game plan beyond boxing on the outside which normally is a big concern however hes very good at what he does and can make it awkward for anyone.

Moruti Mthalane is a good technical fighter that fights in a more normal style compared to Edwards. He has power and a huge amount of experience. His game plan is presumably to put Edwards under pressure and land a big punch towards the later stages of the fight when Edwards gets tired.

Sunny Edwards

I do think this fight could go either way based on the fighters having completely different game plans with really only one way to victory for both. Edwards will box on the back foot but won’t look as good as he has versus the competition hes faced while Mthalane will be relentless in tracking him down. I think in the end Moruti Mthalane will win by knockout because hes got the experience and power advantage and we’ve seen Edwards dropped before. I also think not having any power at world level is a recipe for disaster.
